About Me

I'm Billie Butler, a performing artist and gig worker who grew up in NH, mostly between Milton and Portsmouth. I have been a resident and home owner in Somersworth for 5 years and in that time I have been a poll worker for three elections, most recently being appointed by the city council as a selectman. I am running for state representative in district 12 because small independent businesses, such as working class (1099) artists like myself are wholly underrepresented. I have a deep connection to New Hampshire and decades of experience in collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving. I'm ready to fight for affordable housing, livable wages, quality education for all, gig workers, LGBTQ rights, protecting our environment, and will ensure our government is transparent and accountable. I’ll also be the biggest champion for the arts unlike anyone our great state has ever known. I love New Hampshire, and together, we will continue to make our state strong, inclusive, and equitable for all Granite Staters.
I received an email asking me what I meant by “less government”. It means keeping the state out of our homes, our medical decisions, and other areas best left to individuals or communities. Since January 2025, the NHGOP has introduced hundreds of bills - everything from dictating who can use which bathroom to banning books they don’t like. At the same time, they’re gutting essential services for our most vulnerable, cutting funding for the arts, and shifting the burden of their tax cuts onto municipalities. So much for the party of freedom and limited government.
These so-called tax cuts are a ploy. Costs rise, populations grow, and essential needs don’t go away. I believe in auditing, reallocating, and pursuing thoughtful reform. New Hampshire is stuck in the past when it comes to taxation. My own property taxes have nearly doubled since we bought our house in 2019—and that’s just not sustainable. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I’m committed to doing the work to find them. The burden of funding our state should not fall disproportionately on property owners - especially working families, retirees, and anyone trying to get by on a Market Basket budget.
Finally, I’m going to do everything I can to restore balance in the House. We need more than one-party rule. We need responsible leadership to help steward our beautiful state into its next chapter.
